Nepal Flood News: The first warning many people in Rasuwa got was not a siren. It was brown water already moving faster than they could run. On the morning of 26 August 2026 a collapse of ice, rock and mud on the Nepal–Tibet frontier dropped into the Lhende Khola and Bhote Koshi system and turned a mountain river into a wall. Days later the official count was still climbing: more than 750 dead in Nepal, thousands missing across the border belt, hydropower tunnels silent, morgues short of space. The most unforgettable record of that hour is phone video posted by people who were there, or who passed on what neighbours filmed before the signal died.
What hit the Bhote Koshi?
USGS and later briefings treated the early tremor reading as the landslide itself, not a separate quake that caused the flood. The pulse tore through Rasuwa and down the Trishuli corridor into Nuwakot and Dhading. River levels in some stretches were later described as rising several metres in minutes. Bridges went. Bazaars went. Work camps went.
The first minutes on the bank

What the official count still cannot show?
Hundreds of trekkers were listed out of contact. Hydropower workers went missing in tunnels. Bodies turned up far downstream, including on the Indian side of the Narayani and Gandak. Kathmandu hospitals asked for more space for the unidentified.
The Bhote Koshi flood of 26 August was a few minutes of moving mountain, then days of counting. Officials will keep revising the toll. The videos will not change. A car leaves the road. A man runs and loses. A bazaar becomes a brown sheet. A child comes out of mud. A dog keeps the ruined plot.
