UP Teen Bus Gang Rape Case: A 16-year-old Class 11 student from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped by a driver and conductor inside an empty sleeper bus during a journey from Greater Noida's Pari Chowk towards Delhi's Kashmere Gate, police said. Both men have been arrested and the bus has been seized for forensic examination.

The alleged assault took place on the night of August 4, according to police accounts cited by multiple news organisations. The teenager is from Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh and had been travelling to meet a cousin in Noida.

How did the teenager board the sleeper bus?

According to police, the teenager had left home without informing her family following a disagreement and was travelling to meet her cousin in Noida.

Heavy rain and darkness reportedly led her to get off at Pari Chowk by mistake, leaving her stranded.

Police said an empty sleeper bus passed through the area and the teenager signalled for help. The driver and conductor stopped and allegedly told her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector 63.

She then boarded the vehicle.

Investigators said the bus had earlier suffered a mechanical problem and had been taken to a workshop in Surajpur for repairs. The driver and conductor were reportedly taking the empty vehicle towards Timarpur after the repair work when they encountered the teenager.

What does the teenager allege happened inside the bus?

According to the teenager's account to police, the conductor began making obscene advances after the vehicle started moving.

She alleged that the driver and conductor subsequently sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her when she resisted.

Police accounts cited by NDTV and other publications said the sleeper bus travelled approximately 47 kilometres between Pari Chowk and Kashmere Gate.

Investigators are examining whether the configuration of the sleeper bus helped conceal the alleged crime. The vehicle had curtains around its sleeping compartments, restricting visibility from outside.

The allegations are part of the police investigation and have not been established by a court.

What happened after the alleged assault?

Police said the two men allegedly left the teenager on Ring Road near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal late at night before leaving the area.

The student then contacted Kashmere Gate police and reported what had allegedly happened.

Investigators subsequently identified and arrested the two accused.

The driver has been identified as Kuldeep and the conductor as Sandeep. Police arrested them from a bus parking area in Timarpur, according to reports citing investigators.

Separate reporting has identified the driver as 39 years old and the conductor as 26.

Bus seized for forensic examination

Delhi Police have also seized the sleeper bus allegedly used in the crime.

The vehicle has been sent for forensic examination, an important part of the continuing investigation into the teenager's allegations.

Investigators are examining the sequence of events surrounding the journey, including the bus's movement after it left the Surajpur workshop.

Reports also indicate that police used CCTV footage as part of efforts to trace the suspects.

Further investigation is underway.
